Weekly Roundup: I was on the Local Radio And Made An Exclusive Moving Announcement!

Reader,

August marks Black Business Month and T minus 150 days until the end of the year. I recently had the privilege of being interviewed on a renowned Black-owned radio station in Tulsa, Oklahoma, KBOB, frequented by icons like singer-songwriter Charlie Wilson and actress Alfre Woodard.

During the engaging hour-long discussion on the Perspective Show with host Jen Brown, we talked about how we met, my journey as a cancer survivor, the upcoming docuseries on cancer survival, my role as a brand therapist, and mentorship in the startup world. At the 30-minute mark, I unveiled an exclusive announcement:

I'm relocating to Kenya!

Tune in to discover the inspiration behind my move to Kenya and my upcoming role as a volunteer teacher at the Al-Walidayn Center, an orphanage. This experience will not only immerse me in the culture, people, and environment of Kenya, but also pave the way for a new chapter in my life.

Docuseries Update:

Crowdfunding has taught me the importance of having a daily marketing plan. Initially, I had reservations, especially considering the recommended 30-day campaign duration. I anticipated challenges in meeting the goal within that timeframe, given my long-term vision (avoiding setting dates for goals). However, falling short on funds doesn’t equate to failure.

Beyond Kickstarter, I’m forging connections, building the dream team, engaging in virtual discussions about disability, and strategizing for filming in my hometown and speaking/screening locations. Amidst relocating to another country and juggling my role as a part-time online program manager for seminars, I ensure my recently widowed mother is looked after. I’m also:

  • Finalizing travel arrangements for upcoming speaking engagements
  • Recording and planning keynote presentations and workshops for these events
  • Editing scripts for corresponding segments

Balance may be elusive, but it’s about focusing on your strengths and delegating the rest. Continue to learn more about the series due for completion before I relocate. Sharing is caring. https://zaakirahnayyar.com/documentary

My most recent Corresponding Segment for Focus: Black Oklahoma is now available on all podcast platforms.

This marks the first of three episodes on foster care. This one features interviews with Danielle A. Melton, who, along with her husband, has fostered over 35 children since 2016 (adopting one daughter). I’ve also spoken with Amnoni Myers, who shared insights on growing up in foster care and is developing an app for those transitioning from foster care. Listen now:
